? Scroll
Name destroy armor
Appearance random
Cost 100 zm
Weight 5
Ink to write 5-9

The scroll of destroy armor selects a random piece of worn armor and destroys it. If the scroll is cursed and targets cursed armor, it will not destroy the armor, but instead lower its enchantment by one. If the cursed armor is -7, there is no effect except you become stunned for 10-19 turns.

If a non cursed scroll of destroy armor is read while confused, it will instead remove erodeproofing from a random piece of worn armor (if any). If a cursed scroll of destroy armor is read while confused, it will make a random piece of equipped armor erodeproof.

Identification[]

Reading this scroll without identifying it can destroy a useful piece of armor by accident. If you have the option of price identification, this scroll is in the same price category as the scroll of fire, so you may wish to identify the scrolls in these price range carefully. If the price is known, you can remove all your armor to identify the scroll without any risk of having armor destroyed - depending if your point score considers you a beginner or not, you will get different messages (see below). The drawback to this is that it abuses strength and constitution.

If you don't have the option of price identification, you can wear a piece of extra or junk armor (a piece that could benefit you from a scroll of enchant armor if you have not yet identified that scroll for example) that would not affect you if destroyed.

Strategy[]

This scroll is one of the ways to get rid of a cursed piece of armor; simply remove all but the cursed pieces and read a noncursed scroll.

Reading a cursed scroll of destroy armor while confused will fooproof a random piece of worn armor. This is a good use of the scroll if you are not in need of the other function of it. It will not, however, repair any damage. For that, you could read a confused scroll of enchant armor, but using cursed scrolls of destroy armor saves scrolls of enchant armor for their primary purpose.
