Amphibiousness is an intrinsic property acquired by either polymorphing into a monster that possesses it naturally or also being unbreathing.
Amphibiousness prevents instadeath by drowning, and allows walking around underwater. Your inventory and equipment will still be affected normally, and movement will usually be less successful than on dry land.
