The caret ^ has a few purposes:
- A ^ on the screen normally represents a trap, but can also be a portal.
- Press ^ for the trap_id command.
- ^ is the default for the menu_first_page option.
The caret is also used as a prefix to denote a control character, for example, use ^P (control-p) to review previous messages.
